FAQ

  • Q What is the first appointment of the day and the last appointment of the day? A The first appointment is 8 AM and the last appointment is 230 or 3 PM (depending on the day). Please try to arrive 15 minutes early to allow you to fill out the required paperwork and start your visit on time.
  • Q Why do I need a referral, if my insurance does not require a referral? A It is our policy to have a referral if your visit may require a referral for any type of procedure or imaging. Obtaining this referral ahead of time allows us to provide you with optimal care at the time of your visit and reduces unnecessary waiting on your part by eliminating the need to wait for a referral at the time you are seen.
  • Q What insurances do you take? A We take most insurances including AvMed, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, Preferred Care Partners, United, Medicare, Medica, NHP and most others. If you do not see your insurance listed here feel free to call or email us at appointment@urologymiami.com for further information.
  • Q How long before a test result is ready? A Blood Tests and Urine Cultures commonly take about 1 week. Testosterone closer to 2.5 weeks. Biopsies, cytologies 2 weeks.
  • Q How can I get my results? A The easiest way to obtain your results is to either call 1-866-399-9224 and use your Social Security Number for your ID and password. OR to www.mytestresults.com Customer Number is 516429 Please use your Social Security Number for your ID and password. If neither of these options are available please schedule an appointment to see either the doctor or his assistant for the results.
  • Q Can you fax me my test results? A We do not fax test results due to the inability to control who receives these results and the need to comply with HIPAA
  • Q Could you please give me my lab results? A If you are unable to obtain test result either via the Lab Calls line or the website, you may leave a message for the nurse to check your labs, review them with the doctor (if needed) and return your call. This will take 2-3 business days. We are unable to provide lab results after hours or on weekends.
  • Q I have an emergency today can I see my doctor? A If you have a LIFE THREATENING MEDICAL EMERGENCY, please go to the nearest ER. If you have a urgent problem that needs same day but not emergent attention, please call the office and ask if the doctor or an associate could see you. We are able to accommodate most patients within 48 hours (pending insurance issues).
  • Q Do the doctors see the patients on time? A While our doctors do start the day on time and make every effort to remain on schedule, as they spend as much time as is needed to address patients' concerns and issues, the doctors may run late for your particular appointment. Rest assured however, that the doctor will spend all the time needed to address your issues and concerns as is needed.
  • Q Why do I have to pay 25.00 if no one told me I had to cancel with 24 hour notice ? A As no shows affect the ability of patients who require a visit to be seen, we have instituted a $25 no show fee. This is indicated on the initial financial agreement signed by all patients at the first visit.
  • Q Do the doctors in the office speak Spanish? A Drs. Gomez and Puig are both fluent in Spanish and Dr. Sandman is proficient in medical Spanish. Moreover, all of our staff are bilingual.
  • Q Are the doctors in the office oncologist urologists? A The doctors in our office are all extensively trained in all urological disiplines but have a special interest in Urologic Oncology and Minimally Invasive surgery (including robotic assisted and laparoscopic surgery).
  • Q I called my pharmacy and they said they never got the prescription. Could you please call it in? A Please have you pharmacy check the electronic prescription inbox. If this does not resolved the problem please direct inquiries to our nurse's line or ma@urologymiami.com. It takes us 2 business days to process prescriptions.
  • Q How can I refill a prescription? A To refill prescriptions, please have your pharmacy FAX us a refill request. It will take us 2 business days to process. We are unable to refill prescriptions after hours or on weekends.
  • Q Can you just call in my prescription now? A We are unable to call the pharmacy and give them prescriptions. For patient safety (e.g., drug interaction checking), we now handle our prescriptions electronically.
  • Q My insurance company does not cover the medication prescribed. What can I do? A We will be happy to do our best to find medication that is optimal for you and that is most reasonable from a financial perspective. If a generic equivalent or similar drug which is covered by your insurance is available and is appropriate for you we will be able to send this prescription to your pharmacy of choice within 2 working days. If no appropriate equivalent is available, we will do our best to obtain an authorization from your insurance company; however, this may be an extended process.
  • Q The medication prescribed is too expensive. What can I do? A If a generic equivalent or similar drug which is covered by your insurance is available and is appropriate for you we will be able to send this prescription to your pharmacy of choice within 2 working days. At times, due to factors beyond our control, medication is indeed expensive. Oftentimes, the drug manufacturer may be able to offer you a discount. You would need to get in touch with the manufacturer to determine if this is an option for you.
  • Q Can the doctor give my a prescription without seeing me as the visit is very expensive? A While we understand that a larger part of the burden of paying for medical care is being shifted to the patient, it is our responsibility as medical providers to periodically reevaluate patients that we prescribe medications for to assure efficacy, lack of side effects and continued appropriateness of said medication. For that reason, we do need to periodically need to see you prior to writing a medication refill.
  • Q How am I supposed to take my medications? A If you leave a detailed question on our nurses line or email ma@urologymiami.com, our medical assistant will be able to return your call within 2 business days.
  • Q I need to speak to the doctor. How can I get hold of him? A If you have a LIFE THREATENING MEDICAL EMERGENCY, please present to the nearest ER. Most issues can be handled by our very competent medical assistants or by our excellent PA. If you need to speak to the doctor, it is often best to set up an appointment to have a discussion with the doctor. If that is not possible and if you leave message with our medical assistant, every effort will be made to return your call within 2 business days.
  • Q Why am I getting a bill from a laboratory? My insurance company tells my they may not pay the bill. A Please refer all billing questions to our billing department at billing@urologymiami.com or by contacting Sandra at extention 134. She will be glad to assist you. If this bill has been received from an outside source (e.g., lab, etc.) please refer the question to the entity that sent you the bill.
  • Q Can you fax or mail me a copy of ...? A We do not routinely mail or fax medical records due to the inability to control who receives these results and the need to comply with HIPAA and Red Flag rules. Please check your labs as outlined above and make arrangements to securely receive other records with our records department by emailing records@urologymiami.com. One of our records coordinators will return your call/email within 2 business days.
